Rehearsal Dinner Scavenger Hunt

A couple years ago, after a friend told me about a photo scavenger hunt he went on, which required participants to take pictures in front of famous San Francisco landmarks, I knew I wanted to have a party just like this. The only catch was, his party took ALL DAY! I wasn't willing to make my guest sacrifice a whole day, so I came up with the idea of choosing a particular neighborhood and making a scavenger hunt in which the guests had to solve clues to figure out which bar they had to go to and then solve another clue to figure out what they had to do when they got there.

When I told my boyfriend at the time what I was planning for my birthday, he thought I was crazy. In the end, even he had to admit that it was a brillant idea after seeing how much fun people had. And thus, my trademark event was born. I have since done similar scavenger hunts for my birthdays, friends' birthdays, friends' of friends' birthdays and, most recently, my friend's rehearsal dinner party. I always try to make them have a central theme. For one friend, I did a pirate-themed hunt, which ended at the San Francisco bar, The Buccaneer. For another, since it was on a bus, I pretended the bus was a school bus and made each clue a homework assignment. For my own wine tasting birthday party in Sonoma, I gave it a wine theme and made guests take photos of their finds.

Lindsay blogs about her movie location-themed event here.

As Lindsay says in her blog, this is a great way to get people who don't know one another to interact. And people get a friendly competitiveness that makes people less shy about engaging strangers.

Writing this post makes me want to go out and plan one right now!

Wedding Save-The-Dates, Invites, Etc.

My friend Lindsay, of Iamnotastalker.com recently got married. Given her love for everything Hollywood, when she asked for help planning her wedding, in particular the Save the Date card and invitations, a movie theme seemed like a no-brainer.

Her husband was concerned of going too far with the theme and making a mockery of their wedding, but I assured him we could run with the movie theme while keeping everything elegant and classy.

Please read Lindsay's blog, which summarizes our work better than I ever could.

90th Birthday Banner

A client recently contacted me at the last minute wanting a 90th birthday banner for her mother-in-law. She wanted it to say "Happy 90th Eleanor" and she planned to hang it in the assisted living center, where her mother-in-law lives. I channeled my inner 90-year-old to think what style and colors I would enjoy at that age, and came up with the banner pictured here.

It is always flattering when someone sees something you have created and then says "I need her to create something for me!" It is truely the best form of flattery. Just that happened when a woman who is planning a bridal shower saw a birthday banner I had made for a surprise birthday party a couple months ago and contacted me to make invitations for the shower.

She had a very tight budget, but as I always say, "We can do this!" Here is the invite that came out of our planning sessions.

Welcome!

I like to be creative. Though my regular 9 -5 job doesn't always allow for creativity, I try to find a hour or so each day to be creative, or enjoy someone elses creativity. I've developed this blog to showcase my projects for Parties, Paper (scrapbooking), Palace (around the house). I hope to give others ideas and hopefully have them share theirs. I personally believe everyone is creative in their own way, but if you are one of those people who haven't yet found your inner Martha Stewart, I would love to help you on any of your projects.

I hope you enjoy my blog. Please let me know if you ever have any suggestions.
